Reticence

Reticence (Custard Protocol #4)Reticence by Gail Carriger
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I love that this series didn’t just focus on Rue. Rue is a great character, and I dearly love Sophronia and Alexia, but the Tunstell twins bring such an interesting dynamic to the story that they deserve the character development they received.

I kept making note of Percy-isms as I read because they were really kind of epic. He really has no idea what is socially acceptable, so what comes out of his mouth is beyond what a normal person would be thinking. That’s really part of the charm of Percy. He is unashamedly himself. He is a great example of someone who doesn’t change who they are to fit in, but becomes an invaluable member of a great group of friends.

You get a feel for how people really look and how a situation really is when Percy is the one describing it. He doesn’t care about sparing someone’s feelings or putting a positive spin on a situation, you get the raw truth.

The fact that Percy and Arsenic helped bring back the characters from the Finishing School series warmed my heart. I love that series and knew that in some way they were connected, but this book gave me a chance to really see how everything was intertwined. I love that the older characters were not forgotten, but given a chance to meddle in the lives of the younger generation. It fits their personalities perfectly.
